Then fear crept in

Through what I could hear
Entered in me so much fear
Though success was so near
I doubted it to be a task I could bear
Easily to the chance came so dear
Wiping of the cheeks clean of any tear
I had to have a vision so clear
All mud on me they had to smear
When all asked was just a chance mere
Grimacing at me they could jeer
Then all around I found it so queer
Back then I had made known my request
My energies for reward I bequest
The zeal to earn was my only quest
All I wanted was to be lost as a guest
